What Is "Feng Shui"

  What Is?

, literally meaning “wind and water,” is an ancient Chinese science that examines the impact of the environment on human well-being and harmony. This discipline dates back at least 6,000 years and originated from the observations and experiences of early humans who sought settlements away from harsh weather conditions and predators, while ensuring access to abundant water and food sources. Over time, this accumulated knowledge was utilized to create prosperous living spaces based on the terrain, mountains, and water.

When evaluating the Feng Shui of a region, a piece of land, or an environment, we consider two major factors. The "Form School" encompasses the physical characteristics of the environment—everything we can see and feel. This includes mountains, water, buildings, roads, the shapes of objects, and even the interior design and decorative items within a home. It focuses on the visible forms and shapes in the surrounding environment.

The second factor is the Compass School. This area of Feng Shui explains how natural cycles influence homes. Since the forces of nature are tied to time and space, precision and consistency are essential in determining their effects. Our compass, known as the Lo Pan, is an indispensable tool for identifying the influence of these energies. According to Feng Shui philosophy, every building is "born" to its destiny the moment its roof is completed and the first person enters. Therefore, every environment must be analyzed based on its construction date and the compass direction it faces.

"To conduct a complete Feng Shui evaluation, we need to know the construction date of the environment and the compass direction it faces."

The Chinese categorize the factors determining a person's success in life as follows: First comes Fate, followed by Luck, then Feng Shui, fourth is Philanthropy, and fifth is Education.

Feng Shui is the third factor. It represents the positive and negative influences we receive from our environment, such as our home or office. Everyone is affected by the energies of the environment they live in. Positive energies bring prosperity and health, while negative energies can lead to illness and financial loss. Therefore, Feng Shui is a significant factor influencing a person's success.
